According to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over half of seniors have some form of Incontinence; and yet this widespread problem carries an unnecessary and inappropriate stigma or embarrassment for many. 75% are women and 25% are men. At least one-third of American women experience a bladder problem, but only about 10% buy an adult diaper. About half of women ages 40 to 60 experience bladder leaks, or Urinary Incontinence, according to the American College of Physicians. Stress Incontinence is involuntary leakage of urine associated with an increase in abdominal pressure (i.e., coughing, laughing, sneezing). Urgency urinary incontinence, sometimes referred to as Urge Incontinence, is involuntary leakage of urine accompanied or immediately preceded by a sense of urgency. The underlying mechanisms of each type of incontinence differ. Fecal or Bowel Incontinence presents another containment and coverage challenge.
